. . . Spaniard reflects on his goal and vital victory

Chico Flores admitted victory over Fulham was a huge relief to the squad, and then expressed his delight after his goal sealed the win at the Liberty.
Jonjo Shelvey had edged the hosts ahead with a strike that took two deflections before beating keeper Maarten Stekelenburg just past the hour, and then Chico headed home Jonathan de Guzman’s free-kick to send the Swans on their way to three vital points.
It ended a winless run of eight league games for Michael Laudrup’s side, who rose to tenth courtesy of this victory.
And Chico revealed he could feel the relief in the changing room after the Swans returned to winning ways.

“We knew it was a very important game in what is a vital run of fixtures,” said the Spaniard.
“We went onto the pitch really focused and we were desperate to win.
“We tried to control the game from the start, and I think we played well in the first half.
“We controlled the game and we kept the ball.
“We couldn’t score because they were very compact and we couldn’t penetrate them.
“But in the second half we had the same attitude – we wanted to score, and we managed to do that and win the game.”
He added: “When we scored the first goal it was a big relief to the team. It was very good for our game-plan.
“At 1-0 we were more relaxed and that attitude helped us get our second goal.
“I am very happy with my goal. I really wanted to score but not only for me, but for my team-mates and the supporters. It was something that we really needed.
“But the important thing was that we played well, kept a clean sheet - which is important because we haven’t done that in quite a while - and won the game.
“This win was against a direct opponent and we really needed these points because we were close to the relegation zone.”
