New boy Jonathan de Guzman believes the Swans midfield has all the right ingredients for success in the Barclays Premier League this season.
The summer loan signing from Villarreal joined another recent recruit, Michu, in a new-look midfield anchored by stalwart Leon Britton against Blackpool in Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly.
The Swans ran out impressive 4-2 winners against Ian Holloway’s free-flowing Tangerines – a victory that the former Netherlands Under-21 international believed proved that the midfield trio have already built up a good understanding.
“There's still a lot to work to do ready for our first league game at QPR,’’ explained de Guzman. “But it looked a good balance in midfield against Blackpool.
“Leon holds the back and links up very well. I'm a bit more attacking and with the creativity of Michu, who like Leon brings others into the game, I think we can do well as a group.
"I have confidence in Michu with the ball, so I can make those runs forward and get my chances. We also created a number of chances for the wingers and Danny Graham, who grabbed a hat-trick.
"I think we did very well in the first half, keeping the ball and getting our chances and scoring goals. In the second half we played a little slower and there was a little lack of concentration with people getting tired.
"We still need to get fit for the first game against QPR, but we are getting there and pre-season has been good. It probably took us a bit of time to mould together on the pre-season tour of America. We started slowly, but I think we proved against Blackpool that we are moulding together as a starting XI.
“It was a good result against Blackpool. I think we showed the fans some good football and they showed us a lot of support in return.
"It's my first time in the Premier League and I'm very happy to be here. Swansea's a very good club and I have had a nice welcome. It's a nice group."
