. . . Holland through to World Cup semi-final on penalties

Michel Vorm and Jonathan de Guzman were unused substitutes as Holland reached the last four of the World Cup after beating Costa Rica 4-3 on penalties.

Substitute goalkeeper Tim Krul came off the bench late into extra-time to save two spot-kicks from Bryan Ruiz and Michael Umana, while Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt scored for the Dutch.

The game finished 0-0 after extra-time, with Sneijder hitting the wordwork twice while Manchester United striker van Persie had an effort turned on to the bar.

Holland now face Argentina in the second semi-final in Sao Paolo on Wednesday.
