Everton great Graeme Sharp has fond memories of the Vetch – now he wants more moments to savour at the Liberty.
The former Toffees striker will be in SA1 on Saturday as the Swans host an Everton side that completed the double over them last season.
Sharp, now an ambassador at Everton, is hoping David Moyes’ side will continue their winning streak against the Swans.
The Scottish international has enjoyed plenty of success himself on Welsh soil – having a glowing scoring record on his visits to the Vetch while he managed Bangor City to Welsh Cup glory in 1998.
In an interview for our matchday programme Jack Magazine, he said: “Swansea’s old Vetch Field was quite a lucky ground for me.
“I can recall scoring twice there in a 3-1 victory towards the end of the 1981-82 season (May 1, 1982) and I scored one of my early goals for Everton against Swansea earlier that campaign in a 3-1 win at Goodison Park (December 5, 1981).
“I’m pretty sure I was also on the scoresheet when we won 3-0 at Swansea in the 1982-83 season too (October 16, 1982).”
Sharp, who helped Everton to two First Division titles, an FA Cup and the European Cup Winners Cup, added: “I’ll be going to Swansea hoping for a repeat of last season’s result and display.
“Swansea have started the season very well, continuing on the great work that Brendan Rodgers did last campaign.
“Although they lost last time out against Aston Villa, it will be a very tough place for Everton to go. David Moyes got his tactics spot on when the Toffees last played at the Liberty Stadium when (Leighton) Baines and Nikica Jelavic scored in a 2-0 win.
“From a selfish point of view, I obviously hope Everton can get the three points again.
“What I can definitely forecast is that it will be a good game between two very good footballing sides.”
The new-look bumper 76-page magazine is a must for every Swans fan and will be available around the ground, the club shop and online HERE along with Slee Stores in Plasmarl.
