. . . as de Guzman looks forward to QPR opener

Jonathan de Guzman has revealed the Swans are buzzing with excitement as the Premier League prepares to kick-off.

The Swans head to Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the campaign looking to start life under Michael Laudrup on a winning note.

Under a new manager, there are new faces too with de Guzman being joined by the likes of Chico Flores, Michu and Itay Schechter – who is finalising his loan move from Kaiserslautern.

And de Guzman said he can feel a real sense of anticipation around the city as time ticks nearer Saturday’s visit of Loftus Road.

“It’s a great time for everyone – the players, coaches, fans,” said the midfielder, who is on loan from Villareal.

“Everyone has been waiting for the season to kick off, and I have felt the buzz around Swansea.

“It’s a small city, but what we have here is a closeness and everyone has been so nice and supportive. It’s a real family unit and that can be a real asset in the Premier League.

“The supporters are so passionate and really loud too. The backing we had for the friendly matches was great, and we can’t wait to get out against QPR on Saturday and play in front of them.”

He added: “I’ve already loved my time here. There’s a fantastic group here and I love the style of football.

“I’m really looking forward to the season.

“We’re hoping to get off to a good start. QPR will be a very tough game, but we’re all determined to give the supporters something to cheer about on the way home.”
