. . . but one thing was missing on Swans debut

Kyle Bartley reflected on a successful Swans debut, but insisted only one thing was missing – a clean sheet!

The 21-year-old made his first appearance for the Swans in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup win over Barnsley at the Liberty.

Bartley, who joined from Arsenal for £1million earlier this month, played in the heart of defence along with Alan Tate as the Swans progressed to the third round.

Despite featuring for the whole 90 minutes of the home win, the former Gunners centre-back admits a clean sheet would have capped off a perfect start as a Swan.

“It went very well. It was great to make my debut and the fact it was in front of the home crowd makes it even better,” said Bartley.

“As a defender it was important to keep it simple, do my job and let my performance shine through as the game goes along.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t keep a cleansheet but other than that it was a good performance and result.

“Me and Tatey held the line well, talked a lot to each other and defended strongly for the majority of the game.

“We will build on that in training and hopefully I can help get a cleansheet next time.”
