. . . Leon highlights victory as one of best
Swansea City’s pocket dynamo, Leon Britton, hailed the club’s 2-0 victory at Chelsea as one of the highlights of his career.
Britton was beaming as goals from Michu and Danny Graham gave the Swans a famous victory at Stamford Bridge to take a 2-0 lead into the second-leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final at the Liberty Stadium in a fortnight’s time.
“It’s hard to describe how I’m feeling,’’ declared Britton. “It’s up there as the best performances and results since I’ve been here.
“To go to the European champions, score two goals and not concede any with the attacking quality they have got is a great achievement for this club. Remember, ten years ago this May we were beating Hull to stay in the Football League.
“You need guts, determination and bravery to go to a place like Stamford Bridge and win. We showed those qualities in abundance. The passing was good, but everyone stood up and dug deep.
“Last season we did very well, but we didn’t beat one of the big teams on the road. This season though we have gone to Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea and won.
“It gives you great confidence, and that is where we have improved on last season.
“For me, this result is right up there among the highlights of my career.’’
But ever the professional, Britton was quick to add a word of caution.
“We are halfway through this tie," he said. "I know it’s boring, but we can’t get complacent because we have 90 minutes to play at home against a team of Chelsea’s quality.’’
Britton also praised the qualities of star man Michu who grabbed his 16th goal of an amazing season so far.
He added: “His form gives you massive confidence. As a team-mate when Michu is in front of goal, he’s just so calm and composed you know he’s going to put it away.
“The chance tonight was still a tough one to put away but he’s done it all season.
“For £2million I think, although Robin van Persie might be the signing of the season, you’ve got to say Michu is right up alongside him.''
