. . . as opening win earns performance of the week gong
The Swans stole the show on the opening day of the Premier League – now they have an award to prove it.
The Michael Laudrup era started on a winning note as the Swans secured a stunning 5-0 away win over QPR last weekend.
And that ruthless display was enough to earn the Swans the F&C Investments Performance of the Week Award.
The first award of the season, voted by a five-man panel comprising LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, will be presented to Laudrup, who will receive a specially engraved crystal football to mark the achievement.
Two goals from new signing Michu and a brace from Nathan Dyer along with a late strike from Scott Sinclair meant the Swans claimed their first victory at Loftus Road – and a first opening-day win in seven years.
