. . . Samuel strikes late on to seal friendly win

Swansea City Under-21s had to come from behind twice to beat Merthyr Town 3-2 at Penydarren Park on Tuesday night.

Kristian O’Leary fielded a youthful side which included the likes of David Cornell, Curtis Obeng, Ben Davies and Gwion Edwards against the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West outfit.

The hosts had led as young defender Scott Tancock unfortunately turned a cross into his own net before Northern Irish striker Rory Donnelly levelled before the break.

Merthyr regained the lead in the second half before Gwion Edwards put the Swans back on level terms.

Then it was left to 16-year-old striker Alex Samuel - signed from Aberystwyth Town this summer – to fire home the winner five minutes from time following a fine cross from Alex Bray.

Swans U21s: David Cornell (Oliver Davies, ht), Curtis Obeng, Scott Tancock, Thomas Atyeo, Ben Davies (Luke Llewellyn, 65), Henry Jones (Sam Evans, 70), Kurtis March (Nathan Waters, 60), Rory Donnelly, James Loveridge (Alex Samuel, 75), Alex Bray, Gwion Edwards (Taylor Wu, 80).
