. . . smooth transition for Swans' Spanish star
New kid on the block Michu has made a dream start to life in the Premier League, and the Spaniard is targeting more success with Swansea City.
The 26-year-old is currently joint top-scorer in the top flight after scoring four goals in three games, with the Swans sitting in second place during the international break.
Michu is enjoying life in South Wales after his switch from Rayo Vallecano this summer. The £2million spent on securing his services has already proved a bargain, with former England boss Glenn Hoddle insisting he has been the best purchase of the transfer window.
And Michu admits he couldn’t have asked for a better start to life as a Swan, having scored twice on his debut in the opening-day 5-0 win at QPR along with strikes against West Ham and Sunderland.
“It has been a dream start,” he beamed. “The team has played very well. We have scored ten goals and only conceded two.
“To have seven points after three games shows we have done very well so far. We are playing to our strengths, and everyone is enjoying the way we play.”
Michu is certainly enjoying the Swans style, revelling alongside his team-mates in the new regime under Michael Laudrup, as he explains.
“We have some very good players here,” he added. “I really enjoy playing with this team – the manager wants us to play football - pass and move, pass and move. I think everyone enjoys watching us play.
“The big difference for me is that in the Premier League there seems to be more space available for players to run into. In La Liga, it is very, very tactical which means you don’t have that option.
“But I’m really enjoying it. Everyone has their job, and they do it well.
“Leon (Britton) keeps the ball so well and wins it back quickly while Jonathan (de Guzman) works very hard for the team. I know a lot about him from his time at Mallorca.
“Then there’s Wayne (Routledge) and Nathan (Dyer), who I link up with very well while Danny (Graham) does a lot of work for the team and we switch positions sometimes. We have a good understanding.
“We also have Ki (Sung-Yueng) just arriving in the squad to add more quality to what we already have, so it looks good for us.
“But we are not stopping here. Seven points from three games is great, but we have a lot of hard work ahead.”
While Swans fans are already singing about their new gem, Michu admits he’s been blown away by the support of the Jack Army.
He added: “We don’t have the money like the other clubs, but we have a full stadium every game and the supporters are so passionate about the club. That means a lot for a footballer, seeing the fans at every game filling the stadium.
“Even for the away game at QPR, we walk out of the tunnel and there are over 2,000 fans in the away section. They are amazing.
“When they shout my name I feel very proud. But hopefully we will give them a lot more to shout about this season.”
