Kristian O’Leary’s young Swans got their U21s Development League Two campaign off to a winning start in Llanelli on Monday.
James Loveridge put the Swans ahead at Stebonheath Park when he fired Rory Donnelly’s cross into the roof of the net.
Former Wigan and West Brom striker Nathan Ellington – one of Ipswich’s allocated over-aged players – then levelled for the visitors.
But Donnelly ensured the Swans were ahead before the break as his sublime chip from 20 yards beat the keeper.
With no goals in the second half, the Swans claimed victory to ensure they kicked off the new set-up in a winning fashion.
Swans U21s: David Cornell, Daniel Alfei, Jazz Richards, Darnel Situ, Scott Tancock, Henry Jones, Lee Lucas, Kurtis March (Josh Sheehan, 80), James Loveridge, Gwion Edwards, Rory Donnelly.
Meanwhile, there were mixed fortunes for the younger age groups.
Owain Jones scored the only goal for the U18s in a 4-1 defeat to Ipswich while Brandon Griffiths bagged a hat-trick as the U16s won 3-2.
Next up for the U21s is a trip to Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on Monday (7pm).
The U18s and U16s are also at Colchester, with their games taking place at Florence Park on Saturday (11am).
