Michael Laudrup felt he learned a lot and had plenty of positives to take from the Swans’ opening American tour defeat to Colorado Rapids.
The Swans went down 2-1 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City but went close to snatching a draw late on after summer signing Jonathan de Guzman cut the deficit with a stunning free-kick.
Laudrup made ten changes to the starting XI for the second half, with the game played in conditions of 32C and a mile above sea level.
Despite the defeat to the MLS side, Laudrup admits he will take plenty from the game.
“They were two different halves,” he said. “In the first half we had some problems, we played too slowly. They scored two goals – the second was a fantastic one.
“But we were better in the second half. We had more pace and position play.
“We created three of four chances. We scored one and could have got another one at least.
“It was a very important game for me to see. I got to see every player expect from Gwion Edwards and Michel Vorm.
“I took plenty from it – that’s why we are here.
“I wanted to come here open-minded. I’ve seen a lot of other players from last season, while there are others who I haven’t seen that much from. So I wanted to see for my own eyes, that’s why everyone played 45 minutes.
“We will do the same for the game on Saturday (against Ventura County Fusion).
He added: “The temperature was a little hot, but the altitude was a factor. You have to get used to the speed of the ball.
“But it was a good game for me to see.”
