Welsh comedian and actor Rob Brydon has signed up for the 1912 Foundation. In a personal article, Rob looks back on his days supporting the Swans.

I don't claim to be a great authority on football. I know the basics. One pitch, one referee, two teams trying to get the ball up to the other end and score a try.

As a child growing up in Baglan, Swansea was my local team, but if truth be told I wasn't that bothered. My best friend David Williams, currently the club's promotions manager, was a huge fan and I suspect always felt me to be slightly lacking in passion and commitment on the football front.

He was right.

This didn't stop me trundling along to The Vetch with him now and again on a Saturday afternoon to show support. We would usually arrive at the ground after a pre-match mooch around The Quadrant, Swansea's premier shopping location. Then recently opened and still something of a talking point, it was - and I'm sure still is - a place for the bright young things of society to see and be seen.

Our circuit would take in WH Smith's for a quick browse through magazines we never intended to buy; HMV for a quick browse through records we never intended to buy before finally succumbing to the exotic allure of Debenhams.

Here we would have a furtive sniff at the girls on the cosmetics counters and marvel at the sheer scale and ambition of their make up. Colours so bright if they lay on their backs you could land a helicopter.

Once at the ground I would try to get involved and show willing, shouting encouragement where appropriate and congratulations when earned; I made an effort.Try as I might though, I was simply unable to join in with the chanting.

To this day I just don't get it. One group of grown men talking loudly and in unison at another group of grown men on the opposite side of a field. It just seems silly.

I am not a chanter. I never have been and I think I can say without fear of successful contradiction that I never will be.

If you yourself are a chanter and are looking forward to a bit of chanting this afternoon, then I do apologise and hope that I haven't made you feel self conscious.

So, onto the reason for interrupting your pre-chant programme perusal.I'd like to encourage you to support the 1912 Foundation.

Young talent needs to be nurtured if it is to grow and prosper. I myself was hugely encouraged while a young would be actor at school. My drama teacher, Roger Burnell, was a guiding light and I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am today without his help.

Where am I today? Good question. I'm not one to blow my own trumpet, but let's just say that The Western Mail, three or four years ago voted me the 47th sexiest man in Wales. Impressive. Even more so when you consider that I now live in London.

So come on, get behind the 1912 Foundation and help ensure the future of a team that means so much to so many. I benefited hugely from having my talent nurtured, so help ensure that local youngsters, and those further a field, choose and have an opportunity to develop their talent with the Swans in an environment that offers state of the art facilities.

The 1912 Foundation can help the Swans achieve that.

I've joined the 1912 Foundation, have you?
