History was made in Aberystwyth on September 24 when the first ever Welsh Premier Women's Football League match was played.
The opening game at Park Avenue saw Aberystwyth Town Ladies host Llanidloes Town Ladies with the home side running out 2-0 winners.
The prize for the Winners of the competition when it concludes in April will not only be the prestige of being crowned the inaugural Welsh Premier Women's Football League champions, but also £8,000 in prize money and a place in the Uefa Women's Cup next season.
The new league, funded by the Football Association of Wales, comprises of eight teams with four clubs based in the Mid/North and four in the South.
Joining Aber and Llanidloes in the Northern half are Wrexham Ladies and Caernarfon Town Ladies, while the quartet in the south includes UWIC Ladies, Manorbier Ladies, Newcastle Emlyn Ladies and the Swans.
The League was launched in Haverfordwest at the Wales v Belgium Women's international match (September 20), when all eight clubs were represented, along with the Wales Women's team manager and Swans' goalkeeping coach, Adrian Tucker, and League Secretary John Deakin.
Deakin launched the men's equivalent 17 years ago and is optimistic about the new League, which will certainly boost the Women's game in Wales.
"It certainly will be a notable occasion for Women's Football in Wales," he said.
"I look forward to working for the development and success of the league over the coming months and seeing the champions representing the association in the Uefa Women's Club Championship next season."
