Swans Ladies clinch Southern Division title
Swansea City Ladies secured the Welsh Premier League Southern Division title in style with an emphatic 11-1 victory at Newcastle Emlyn on Sunday, writes Rob Clement.
With the match having been delayed and rearranged by two weeks it was Swansea who were far superior during the first-half, establishing a five goal lead.
Emlyn then made the breakthrough after Swansea had added an additional two goals, but the scoreline was increased with a further six to take them into double figures.
Tredegar-born striker Lindsay Morgan netted a hat-trick during a 17 minute second-half spell, adding to her opening period goal.
"The team was certainly on fire and with a five goal lead at half-time, we were able to relax and play the game the way that we wanted," said team manager Ian Owen.
"We made a fine start with the correct attitude and performance; Lindsay Morgan certainly caused the Newcastle Emlyn defence lots of problems and to score four goals was simply first class.
"The game was really comfortably won with the correct momentum, but on the downside we conceded our first goal following four previous clean sheets, and to be fair to Newcastle Emlyn they did not defend in depth but attempted to make it an open game.
"Unfortunately, they came up against a side which had the greater aptitude and creativity."
They still have one game remaining in the Southern Division, at Manorbier on March 28, before challenging the winner of the Northern Division - either Llanidloes, Aberystwyth or Caernarfon - to determine the overall Welsh champions.
