"Y trobwynt oedd colli Joe Allen"

Posted on: Tue 15 Sep 2009

Un o'r prif bynciau trafod cyn dechrau'r tymor oedd sut fyddai Abertawe yn ymdopi heb eu dau brif sgoriwr y tymor diwethaf Jason Scotland a Jordi Gomez ond un o'r prif bynciau trafod ar ôl y gêm gyntaf yng Nghaerlŷr oedd sut y gwnaethon nhw ymdopi heb Joe Allen.

"Y trobwynt oedd colli Joe Allen."

Dyna ddywedodd Paulo Sousa pan ofynnodd golygydd pêl-droed BBC Cymru Ian Gwyn Hughes iddo fo beth aeth o'i le yng Nghaerlŷr y Sadwrn diwethaf. Dyna oedd barn cyn-ymosodwr Cymru Iwan Roberts hefyd ar ôl iddo fo wylio'r gêm gollodd Abertawe o 2-1 yn Stadiwm Walkers : yn ôl Iwan 'roedd Allen yn 'ddylanwad enfawr' yng nghanol y cae cyn iddo fo orfod gadael y maes oherwydd anaf yn ystod yr hanner cyntaf.

Er na fydd Allen ar gael heddiw bydd Abertawe'n anelu i chwarae'n llawer gwell nag y gwnaethon nhw yng Nghaerlŷr yn erbyn Middlesbrough ac mae gen i atgofion melys o sylwebu ar y gêm ddiwethaf rhwng y ddau dîm. Enillodd Abertawe yn annisgwyl o 2-1 yn erbyn gwrthwynebwyr oedd adran yn uwch na nhw mewn ailchwarae yn nhrydedd rownd Cwpan yr F.A. ar hen faes Middlesbrough - Parc Ayresome - ym mis Ionawr 1995. Buasai buddugoliaeth i Sousa a'i chwaraewyr dros dîm syrthiodd o'r Uwch Gynghrair y tymor diwethaf yn hwb mawr ar ôl siom wythnos yn ôl…… a gallai fod yn drobwynt.

BBC Wales football commentator Gareth Blainey points out that while one of the main talking points before the start of the season was how Swansea would cope without their two top scorers last season Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez, one of the main talking points after the 2-1 defeat at Leicester last Saturday was how they coped without Joe Allen.

Paulo Sousa felt that the injury which forced the Wales midfielder to leave the field in the first half was the turning point.

As for Swansea's opponents today Middlesbrough who were relegated from the Premier League last season, in their last meeting the Swans pulled off a shock 2-1 win against a side who were a division above them in an F.A. Cup third round replay at Middlesbrough's former ground - Ayresome Park - in January 1995.

A similar result today would be a big boost after the disappointment a week ago…. …and could be a turning point.
