Swansea City are currently on a seven-day tour of Spain which takes in games against Espanyol, Palamos, Peralada and Barcelona B. And as Roberto Martinez prepares his troops for the forthcoming Championship campaign, our official website team will be keeping you right up to date with a daily diary that get right up close and personal with the squad.

Day 6

It was a proud moment for midfielder Leon Britton against Palamos as he led the team out for the second-half.

Leon was given the captain's armband with Garry Monk and vice-captain Alan Tate off the pitch.

It was the first time Leon had captained the side during his time at the club and he was quick to point out that he deserved it by being one of the "elder statesman'' of the club.

The rest of the squad had a bit of fun over dinner with it as well, taking it in turns to call out "skipper''.

And as Garry Monk turned around to see who was calling him, he was told: "We weren't calling you, it's Leon we want.''

Darren Pratley came up with one of his usual one-liners, commenting to the press boys about Leon's proud moment.

"Bring back Kenny (Jackett),'' he declared. "He knew a captain when he saw one,'' referring to his own brief spell as skipper under the former manager.

Leon knew his place though when it came to presenting the winner's trophy at the end of the game.

Monks made sure he was first out of the dressing room to receive the giant piece of silverware from the organisers.

And thankfully it wasn't another trophy in the shape of a prawn which the club received after their game with Espanyol.

Having had plenty of practice lifting the League One trophy at the end of last season, Monks took great pleasure in turning to the 300-strong group of Swans fans at the far end of the ground and giving it a big kiss before holding it aloft.

The only problem now is that nobody within the Swans camp wants to take charge of the giant trophy; fearing it will send them over Ryanair's strict and ridiculous 15kg baggage allowance - and cost them more in excess baggage fees than the trophy is worth.

Chairman Huw Jenkins (below) is also concerned after receiving a framed Palamos shirt from the generous home club.

The game against Palamos didn't quite attract the same attention as the fixture with Espanyol at the same stadium two days previous.

But at least some of the locals came out to support their home team. A group of about 40 gathered behind the goal with fire-crackers, a giant flag, drum and a megaphone in hand.

They created plenty of noise, especially through the loud megaphone.

One Swans fan managed to infiltrate the friendly group in the second-half, however, and borrow the megaphone.

It wasn't long before he had the local Catalonians singing Swans songs in broken English, much to the amusement of the other Jacks on the other side of the ground.

Even Swans 'keeper Dorus de Vries turned around with a big smile on his face to see what was happening.

Swans boss Roberto Martinez had plenty of welcome guests at the Estadi Municipal de Palamos.

Not only were his mother, father and other members of the Martinez family there to give him support, one famous old friend also turned up for a chat.

Roberto has been friendly with former Manchester United, Barcelona and Holland star Jordi Cruyff for a number of years and the midfielder couldn't miss the chance to catch up with his footballing mate.

Not surprisingly, the Welsh media were also keen to grab a quote from Jordi on his relationship and views on Roberto.

The son of Dutch legend, Johan Cruyff, was happy to oblige and was full of praise for the job the Swans boss has done so far; while also tipping him to go on to achieve even greater things in the future.

Jordi, a fluent English speaker, hasn't lost his sense of humour either. When Roberto asked the press jokingly if they wanted a translator, the replay that came back was "no, it will be okay''.

Jordi immediately replied: "Why, you can speak fluent Spanish can you?''

Talking of stars, former Barcelona, Chelsea and Spanish defender Albert Ferrer also took time out to visit Roberto at the game against Peralada.

Ferrer was a key member of Barca's 'Dream Team' of the 90s which won the five La Liga titles, the European Cup, Cup Winners' Cup and two European Super Cups.

The pair spent a good 20 minutes chatting on the pitch prior to kick-off before Albert set off home after the match on his motorbike.

Swans director, Martin Morgan, is renowned for leaving things to the last minute. But he excelled himself for the opening tour game against Espanyol.

Martin cut short his holiday in Portugal, where he got to watch former Swan Lee Trundle in action for Bristol City during their pre-season Algarve Tournament, to watch Swansea City in action. (And no, before you jump to conclusions, there's no Swans link with Mr Trundle!)

But having driven two hours from Portugal to Seville to catch their flight to Barcelona for the drive to Palamos in time for kick-off, his travelling party of three adults and five kids missed their flight by seven minutes.

Despite pleading - and serious pleading at that - with airport staff to leave them board the plane, they were turned away.

But never one to give up, the passionate Swans fan managed to book a flight to Madrid and, after a mad dash across the airport, onto another plane bound for Barcelona.

Having somehow managed to hire a car at the other end in record-breaking time, they drove the two hours to Palamos; missing just seven minutes of the game before the kids proudly unveiled a giant 'Gatehouse Jacks' flag.

Oh, yes, and Martin owns his own travel agency!
