Manager Roberto Martinez dedicated Swansea City's Carling Cup victory over Premier League new boys Hull to the 'Jack Army' after a fantastic footballing feast at the Liberty Stadium.

As Swansea clinched their place in the third round of the competition for the first time in 26 years, Roberto was delighted the Swansea faithful got to see another outstanding display of football that took in 120 pulsating minutes.

Despite making eight changes to the side that beat Plymouth in the Championship on Saturday, Swansea dominated the contest after the break as goals from Gorka Pintado and an extra-time penalty from Jordi Gomez sealed another famous victory over the Tigers.

Swansea even had the luxury of missing a 92nd minute penalty as Pintado's spot-kick was superbly saved by Matt Duke.

"I'd like to give this victory to the fans who have been tremendous since that memorable day back in 2003 when we beat Hull at the Vetch Field to secure our Football League status.

"I know there were a lot of changes on both sides, but it still shows how far we've come as a football club when we can compete and beat a Premier League side.

"In the first-half you could see why Hull are a Premier League side. Perhaps we showed them a bit too much respect and were a bit cagey.

"But from the start of the second-half I thought we controlled the game and looked the stronger side as the game went on. The quality we showed was fantastic.

"The extra-time winner rounded off a perfect night of cup football and I hope the fans enjoyed that display.

"The effort and demands the players made were well worth it in the end. It's a great achievement to reach the third round for the first time in 26 years and we will enjoy the cup run.''

While bitterly disappointed with the defeat, Hull City boss Phil Brown heaped praise on the Swans.

"The better team won, there's no doubt about that,'' said Brown. "Swansea played some fantastic football.

"We looked the more organised team in the first-half, but that went out of the window after the break.

"It enabled Swansea to get hold of the ball and the game and they deserved their win in the end.''
