Second string held by Bournemouth

Posted on: Thu 05 Mar 2009

Colin Pascoe named a strong line-up for this Combination clash with no fewer than seven first-team players in the starting eleven.

Matty Collins skippered a side that included the likes of Fede Bessone, Shaun MacDonald and Owain Tudur Jones while Tony Pennock, the club's Head of Youth Development, took his place between the sticks.

The Swans dominated large periods of play during the first-half and came close to breaking the deadlock during the opening 15 minutes through Owain Tudur Jones, who struck the crossbar, and Chris Jones.

Shaun MacDonald was playing his first game since returning from a loan spell at Yeovil and showed some nice touches in the middle of the park, but the hosts couldn't turn their pressure into goals.

The deadlock was in fact broken by the Cherries on the stroke of half-time when Tom Hill fired past Tony Pennock from close-range.

The second period belonged to the Swans and within the first 10 minutes Pascoe's side had no fewer than four chances, three of which fell to Kristian O'Leary.

Bournemouth 'keeper Ryan Pryce twice denied the experienced midfielder with saves from a shot and close-range header while the third attempt was struck just wide.

Matthew Wright saw his glancing header fall just wide of the post after he connected with Shaun MacDonald's cross, but the leveller that the Swans were waiting for came just after the hour when Matty Collins broke into the area and fired low past Pryce into the corner.
