Swansea City defender Matty Collins has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until 2011.

The 23-year-old committed his future to the Championship club after accepting the terms that were offered to him at the end of last season. Collins was pleased to complete the extension with the intension of pushing hard for a regular first team spot next season.

"I'm delighted,'' explained the former Welsh Under-21 international. "I was told midway through last season that I would be offered a new deal, but with all the uncertainty surrounding the manager it was always in the back of my mind that it may not happen.

"Last season was better than my first at the club and I intend to keep that progression going. At my age and at this stage of my career, I need to be playing on a more regular basis.

"I feel my game has progressed significantly over the last two years at the club, especially as I've switched from midfield to right-back. I feel comfortable there now and I believe I am ready to kick-on.

"I love the club and I am proud, especially as a Welshman, to be offered the new deal. It's a great club and I really want to kick on here.''

Collins signed for the Swans in the summer of 2007 from Premiership Fulham after a brief trial at the Liberty Stadium.

Fulham paid Swindon Town £250,000 for the Merthyr-born product as a 15-year-old, but like so many youngsters moving to a big club, he found it difficult to force his way into the first team.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman offered Collins a new contract, but at 21 he felt he needed to start playing regular first team football and signed for the Swans instead.

His only first-team appearance for the Swans in that first season came at Newport County in the FAW Premier Cup, before he made three league appearances on loan at Wrexham in November 2007.

Having been converted from a midfielder to a right-back during that first year, he was handed his chance last season in the Championship when he replaced the injured Angel Rangel for the opening games against Charlton and Nottingham Forest.

Having received rave reviews, he also featured in the Carling Cup against Hull before injury ruled him out for a large part of the season.

His other league appearance came in the home defeat against Crystal Palace in March where he came on at half-time and almost giving the Swans the lead with a shot which struck the post.

* Chad Bond and James Burgin have both returned from their spell on loan at Östersunds FK in Sweden.

Young striker Bond was a regular in the ÖFK starting eleven and found the net on two occasions in seven appearances for the struggling Division 1 Norra outfit.

James Burgin, meanwhile, saw his brief spell at the Jämtkraft Arena come to an abrupt end after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Umeå on June 7.
