Lopez looks for QPR nod

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009

Swansea City midfielder Jordi Lopez is hoping to get the nod to start against his old club on Saturday when Queens Park Rangers roll into the Liberty Stadium.

Lopez spent nearly three months at Loftus Road under current Swans boss Paulo Sousa last season, making 10 appearances and scoring once.

And having sat out Tuesday night's goalless draw at Doncaster Rovers with a one-match suspension following his two yellow cards against Sheffield United, the 28-year-old former Uefa Cup winner is aiming to help his new club extend their current four-game unbeaten run.

"It was the first game I looked for when the fixtures came out,'' admitted Lopez. "I marked it down on the calendar straight away. I'm really looking forward to it.

"The three or four months I spent at QPR were really positive for me. They gave me the opportunity to play in English football and I will always be grateful to them for that.

"I had the opportunity to stay there, but I felt it was a better opportunity for me to come to Swansea and work with Paulo again.

"When Paulo spoke to me about the project he had at Swansea City, I liked what he had to say. It felt like the right move for me.''

Nathan Dyer is also free to return following his one-match ban, while Leon Britton (toe), Andrea Orlandi (thigh) and Cedric van der Gun (thigh) will have fitness tests.

Darren Pratley and Stephen Dobbie are also available to start following their comebacks from injury as second-half substitutes at Doncaster, but striker Gorka Pintado is suspended after the FAW handed him an extra game following his red card against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup.

Fede Bessone is still recovering from a groin strain; Albert Serran an ankle injury, while Ferrie Bodde (knee) is ruled out for the season.
