We should have won, declares Paulo

Posted on: Sat 24 Oct 2009

Swans boss Paulo Sousa admitted he was disappointed not to come away with all three points from their clash with Blackpool at the Liberty Stadium, but remained proud of the performance.

Despite dominating most of the game after the opening 15 minutes, the Swans had to be content with a point from a goalless draw that extended their unbeaten run to eight games.

It was a game the Swans deserved to win.

"I was very disappointed not to get the victory,'' said Paulo. "But I am still very proud of my players because they must be tired after giving so much over a hard month.

"It was another clean sheet, which is good recognition for the team because they have been working very hard. They deserve it.

"I have always believed in my players and today they gave me that proof again. We were much stronger than Blackpool and had plenty of opportunities to score. But their goalkeeper (Matthew Gilks) was outstanding and saved everything.

"It's not a problem we haven't scored today; the problem is when you don't create. Yes, I'm pleased with another clean sheet, but I always prepare my players to win each game.''

Paulo was also adamant that his side should have had a clear first-half penalty when striker Craig Beattie was brought down by Charlie Adam.

"It was a clear penalty. I had a good view of it on the pitch and I have seen it from a couple of different angles on the camera. But the referee saw it different to us; sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't.''

His opposite number, Ian Holloway, disagreed: "It was never a penalty. It was a ridiculous shout and the player (Beattie) should have been booked for feigning it.

"I saw it and the referee was right by not giving it. So why didn't he book him. I think the referee got that wrong?

"Well done to Swansea because they are a good passing team and after the first 25 minutes if anyone deserved to win it then it was Swansea.

"But I am not relieved to get a point; I think we deserved it, although I wasn't too happy with the way we drifted away after the first 25 minutes.

"They will think they should have had three points, while we are going away happy with one."
