Gun-ing to catch up against Owls

Posted on: Sat 13 Mar 2010

Swans midfielder Cedric van der Gun is determined to make up for lost time - starting with the visit of Sheffield Wednesday to the Liberty Stadium this afternoon (3pm).

Having missed two months of football with a hamstring injury, the Dutchman made his return as a 45-minute substitute at Nottingham Forest last Saturday before playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win at Watford in midweek.

And with two impressive performances under his belt, the former Ajax, Den Haag, Utrecht and Borussia Dortmund star is looking to keep the Swans' play-off hopes alive and kicking against the Owls.

Speaking in The Swan, today's 80-page matchday programme, Gun said: "It took me six weeks to get over the hamstring injury and a further two weeks to play again.

"It felt good to play at Forest and I thought the 45 minutes went well. Unfortunately, we lost a game I felt we should have won.

"I had to play a more central role at Watford and it was more of a battle because the pitch was so difficult. But I was pleased to get another 90 minutes under my belt, especially as we won.

"If I can do my bit to help Swansea reach the play-offs I'll be delighted. Every game is going to be difficult between now and the end of the season because there are a lot of good teams in this league.

"But we feel confident about finishing the job.''
