Tonight could be a good night for young Kerry

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Swansea City can take one step closer to achieving their promotion dream with victory against West Brom tomorrow night.

Saturday's draw saw the Swans open up a 10 point gap over the side occupying the final spot outside the play-offs while success against the Baggies would see the Liberty outfit close in on the teams above.

But one Swansea City player could be enjoying the delight of promotion as early as tonight.

Kerry Morgan has played a key role for Newport County as they have dominated the Blue Square South this term, and only one more point is required in order for the Exiles to clinch league elevation and a return to the top-flight of non-league football.

It was his solitary goal that sent a crowd of over 3,000 into raptures last Friday night as Newport beat Bishop's Stortford and a draw against Havant & Waterlooville at Spytty Park tonight would kick-off a massive promotion party.

His short time at the Gwent club has been an enjoyable experience for the 21-year-old forward and also one that he's grateful for.

"I've really enjoyed this season,'' explained Morgan.

"It was fantastic to be given my first league start against Reading at the start of the season, while being part of Newport's promotion push is a bonus.

"I'm really enjoying playing football on a regular basis again. It is hard sometimes being on the fringe of the first team at Swansea because you don't play many reserve games.

"Being able to prepare every Saturday for a game, rather than sitting in the stands, has been great for me. Crowds are good as well with up to 2,500 coming to Spytty Park, while we took 900 to Weymouth last week.

"It also helps that Newport play the right way, the same as Swansea, and manager Dean Holdsworth does things properly. They are a non-league club with a professional attitude."

You can read more about Kerry's time at Newport in tomorrow night's edition of The Swan - the official matchday magazine for the Championship fixture against West Bromwich Albion.
