Kerry targets a treble triumph

Posted on: Tue 16 Mar 2010

Swans striker Kerry Morgan hopes his double celebrations turn into a treble triumph by the end of the season.

The youngster was part of the promotion party with loan club Newport County last night as they clinched a place in the Blue Square Premier (Conference) 21 years after being wound up.

And with the Merthyr-born flyer also announcing that he's just signed a new one-year contract with the Swans until the end of next season, Morgan hopes to make it a unique treble by watching Swansea City clinch promotion as well.

Speaking exclusively to The Swan, the club's matchday programme for tonight's game against West Brom, the bubbly Morgan said: "I've really enjoyed this season. It was fantastic to be given my first league start for the Swans against Reading earlier in the campaign, while being part of Newport's promotion push has been a big bonus.

"Newport play the right way, the same as Swansea, and manager Dean Holdsworth (who played on loan for the Swans in 1988) does things properly. They are a non-league club with a professional attitude.

"That probably stems from their days in the Football League. They are very ambitious and are desperate to regain their league status again.''

While Morgan still trains every day with the Swans, the club's coaching staff has also been keeping a close eye on him at Newport, with Alan Curtis a regular visitor to Spytty Park.

"You can see that he's made a big impact at Newport - on and off the field,'' explained Curtis. "The fans love him there and you can feel the crowd lift with anticipation every time he gets the ball. That's a sign of a good player.

"He's been competing at a good level week in week out at Newport and has certainly developed as a player this season.

"Speaking to Dean Holdsworth and he is adamant that Kerry has played a major role in their success this season and I know they love him in the dressing room as well.''

You can read the full interview with Kerry Morgan in tonight's 80-page edition of The Swan. It's available around the stadium, the club shop and Slee Stores in Plasmarl. It's great value and a great read . . . and all for just £3.

Swansea City Football Club would like to congratulate Newport County on their promotion to the Blue Square Premier (Conference). See you in the Football League soon.
