Swansea City kicked-off their reserve campaign with a 3-0 loss at league new boys Torquay United.
Alan Curtis had a young side at his disposure at Plainmoor while the hosts included a number of trialists and first-team squad members.
And it was the Gulls who came closest to breaking the deadlock early on when Kieron Charnock struck the crossbar, but Casey Thomas twice came close before the break.
But it wasn't long after the re-start before Torquay took the lead when Saul Halpin looped over David Cornell while Lathaniel Rowe-Turner extended their lead before the hour.
Torquay remained on top for long periods and were rewarded with a third and final goal six minutes from time through Ashley Yeoman.
The next challenge for the Swans is a home fixture against Swindon Town who visit The Gnoll on Tuesday September 7 (2pm).
Swans: David Cornell; Jazz Richards, Daniel Alfei, Joe Walsh, Neil Taylor; Shaun MacDonald, Scott Donnelly, Lee Lucas, Thomas Da Silva, Kerry Morgan, Casey Thomas.
