Busy week ahead for Swans' international players

Posted on: Mon 30 Aug 2010
While the majority of the squad will go without a game this weekend there are still a few who will be in action on foreign soil.

No fewer than eight Swansea City players have met up with their respective national teams today in order to prepare for important qualifying matches.

The journey to Euro 2012 gets underway on Friday night and Ashley Williams, David Cotterill and Shefki Kuqi are all expected to feature for Wales and Finland respectively.

Wales make the difficult trip to Montenegro just 12 months after losing a friendly in Podgorica, but spirits are high following the recent thrashing of Luxembourg, when both Williams and Cotterill were on target.

Kuqi, meanwhile, has earned a re-call into the Finland squad and the striker will line-up in Moldova on the same night before a game against Holland four days later.

The five other players - David Cornell, Jazz Richards, Neil Taylor, Joe Allen and Shaun MacDonald - are away on Wales Under-21 duty as they face two tricky matches in Hungary (Saturday) and Italy (Tuesday).

Brian Flynn's side currently top their Euro qualifying group but sit just one point in front of Hungary and three ahead of the Italians.
