Manager Kenny Jackett recalled Willy Gueret in the Swans goal in place of Andy Oakes who had played the last two games.
Kevin Amankwaah was also recalled in place of defender Dennis Lawrence who was away on international duty with Trinidad & Tobago. Amankwaah slotted in at right-back with Alan Tate moving into the heart of the defence.
Striker Lee Trundle also made his return after missing the last five games with a knee and them a hamstring injury. But Trundle had to be content with a place on the bench along with the fit again Kevin Austin (hamstring).
Leon Knight and Rory Fallon continued up front.
Tom Butler also made the bench after scoring twice for the reserves in midweek.
They faced a Tranmere side who had slipped from second to fifth after picking up just one point from their last six.
Three changes were made to the side that lost 2-0 at Bradford with Chris McCready and Paul McLaren returning to the starting eleven, and Steve Davies making his first start under Ronnie Moore. Jason McAteer dropped to the bench while Ian Goodison and Calvin Zola missed out altogether.
The visitors gave the Swans an early scare as Chris Greenacre broke clear inside the area. But Gueret was quickly off his line to make a fine save with just three minutes gone.
Swansea responded almost immediately with a great build up down the right that saw Leon Britton deliver a perfect cross. Fallon met it at the far post and looked odds on to score, but Gavin Ward managed to palm his header behind for a corner after seven minutes.
Britton had an appeal for a penalty turned down straight after as Swansea started to get into their stride, Knight glancing a header just wide.
Fallon fired another effort just wide from the edge of the area in the 16th minute, before Tranmere nearly delivered a sucker punch.
Kevin Ellison forced his way beyond Amankwaah on the byline before forcing Gueret into a good reaction save at the near post. From the corner, Shane Sherriff headed against the post.
It was a fairly even affair when Tom Williams sent a dipping free-kick onto the roof of the Tranmere net with just over 30 minutes gone.
But both sides had gone off the boil by then as the half headed towards a goalless conclusion.
Robinson came close in injury time as his shot was deflected wide, before Fallon headed a Britton cross back across the face of goal only for Robinson's header to be deflected over from all of three yards.
Half-time: Swans 0 Tranmere 0
Greenacre had a great chance for Tranmere three minutes into the second half when he fired straight at Gueret from five yards, while Fallon headed a cross from Williams over at the other end.
Fallon came even closer in the 54th minute when he met a Robinson free-kick, but his header fell inches the wrong side of the upright.
A minute later and Swansea really should have taken the lead when Darren Pratley pulled back a ball from the busy Britton. But Robinson blazed a glorious opportunity over from 10 yards out.
Jackett made a double substitution in the 64th minute in a bid to spark the opener as Shaun MacDonald replaced Britton and Trundle came on for Knight.
Trundle won two quick free-kicks, but there was still no way through despite the fact that Swansea were doing all the pressing.
As the crowd was starting to get frustrated, Trundle worked his magic inside the area to give them a lift before his shot was blocked.
As Swansea worked it back in, Robinson screwed another chance wide from a good position.
With six minutes of normal time remaining, Trundle won a free-kick on the edge of the area. Trundle picked himself up to take it himself, but his effort flew well over to sum up Swansea's night as MacDonald drove a 30 yard effort wide soon after.
