Grimes off the mark at Haverfordwest

Posted on: Mon 19 Oct 2009

While Craig Beattie was celebrating his first goal in Swansea City colours at Ipswich, one of the club's young professionals achieved a similar feat 330 miles away in the west of Wales.

Defender Jamie Grimes scored his first goal of his loan spell at Haverfordwest County as they registered a 2-0 victory at home against Porthmadog.

The 18-year-old opened the scoring with just eight minutes remaining, his 25-yard strike taking a deflection before beating the 'keeper, while the Pembrokeshire side made the points safe in injury-time.

Kerry Morgan was introduced with 63 minutes played to make his Newport County debut at St. Albans City.

Fellow loanee Casey Thomas was an unused sub as the Exiles, under the guidance of former Swan Dean Holdsworth, made it 20 games unbeaten with a 1-0 victory to stay top of the Blue Square South.

Kieran Howard played the final 17 minutes of Neath's 2-0 win against Rhyl while Shaun MacDonald played the full 90 in Yeovil's 3-1 defeat of Carlisle.
