League leaders Swansea went into the game with the chance of clinching promotion to the Championship in front of their own fans.

A victory for the Swans and defeat for Doncaster at Huddersfield would guarantee Swansea City a place in the Championship.

Swansea were still without skipper Garry Monk (back) and Ferrie Bodde (groin), whiole Marcos Painter (hamstring), Paul Anderson (hamstring) and Andrea Orlandi (knee) were given an extra few days to recover from long-standing injuries despite being declared fit.

The only change came from the side that beat Hartlepool 3-1 away last Saturday, saw Febian Brandy return to the bench following suspension to replace goalkeeper David Knight.

Swansea started with a 4-4-2 formation.

Bournemouth started the game in 22nd place, but still with an outside chance of escaping the dreaded drop.

Manager Kevin Bond welcomed back Darren Anderton, Ryan Garry, Warren Cummings and Jo Kuffour for the trip, but Danny Hollands (calf) and Marvin Bartley (knee) are out.

The Cherries wera also still missing Neil Young and Russ Perrett, while trio Neil Moss, Gareth Stewart and Steven Foley are out for the season.

Match report

The game kicked off in front of a packed house at the Liberty with the atmosphere electric.

Swansea started at a quick tempo, playing some neat football. And their first chance came after just five minutes when Andy Robinson picked up a quick free-kick before firing just over from the edge of the area.

As news filtered through that Doncaster were 1-0 down, Jason Scotland found the overlapping Angel Rangel who burst into the box before firing inches wide of the far post.

It still all Swansea with 15 minutes gone as the pace dropped slightly and the Cherries put plenty of men behind the ball.

Tom Butler sparked things off again with a 25-yard shot that skidded just wide in the 20th minute.

Bournemouth's first chance came in the 25th minute after being camped in their own half all game as skipper Darren Anderton saw his 30-yard free-kick deflected wide.

As play switched back to the other end, Scotland and Darren Pratley had shots blocked before Robinson forced an easy save out of David Forde.

Bournemouth had the last chance of the half as Dorus de Vries palmed away a swerving free-kick from Anderton which Shaun Cooper sliced wide from a difficult angle.

Half-time: Swans 0 Cherries 0

Neither side made any changes at the start of the second-half as Doncaster were equalising early on at Huddersfield.

Back to matters at the Liberty and a well worked corner saw Robinson waeve his way into the box before forcing Forde into a save as Alan Tate's follow was deflected wide.

From Butler's second corner, Swansea were ahead with 50 minutes gone as Andy Robinson was left unmarked to head into the bottom corner.

As the noise levels increased, Bournemouth were also forced to commit more men forward as the game opened up and Doncaster went 2-1 down.

Swansea made their first change with 59 minutes gone as Febian Brandy replaced Darryl Duffy.

Bournemouth followed suit as Jo Tessem was replaced by Brett Pitman as away from the Liberty Doncaster had been reduced to 10 men.

The visitors were enjoying more possession now though as Swansea were forced to show plenty of strength at the back.

But Swansea were soon back on the attack as Forde was forced to make three saves in succession from Robinson, Brandy and Butler in the 67th minute.

Doncaster had equalised at Huddersfield to keep things finely balanced with 10 minutes remaining.

Guillem Bauza came on for Scotland with four minutes remaining, and the Spaniard fired wide after being set up by Brandy.

Jo Kuffour hit the bar for Bournemouth with a minute remaining with a fantastic effort from 25 yards.

But just as Swansea were about to celebrate a victory, the Cherries snatched an equaliser when substitute Joe Partington headed home a Warren Cummings corner.

Then deep in injury-time, disaster struck as Bournemouth snatched a second when Jo Kuffour fired home a cross from Brett Pitman.
