Roberto Martinez insists he isn't bothered about Swansea City being above Cardiff in the Football League ladder - but he's thrilled for the fans.

Swansea, who are seventh in the Championship, sit higher than 10th-placed Cardiff for the first time since relegation from what was the Second Division - now League One - in 2001.

And Martinez is delighted to have given the club's followers South Wales bragging rights.

"It doesn't please me but it pleases the fans," said the Swansea manager.

"That's for the fans to enjoy and they deserve it because they were the ones supporting the football club when we were in a dire position.

"We talked about the Hull game in 2003 this week, and being above Cardiff now just shows you that we are on the right track. Now our challenge is to keep on progressing."

Cardiff, who finished 12th in the Championship last season, visit the Liberty for an eagerly awaited derby in November, with the return to come next April.

"It means a lot to our fans that we are above them and I can understand that," added Martinez.

"In football you always want to have that winning feeling and sometimes you need the table to reflect that."
