Swansea City will resume their search for a goalkeeper next week after the transfer window closed without any new arrivals at the Liberty Stadium.

The options available to boss Roberto Martinez have decreased after last night's deadline, with the Swansea boss now unable to make a permanent signing — barring free agents — or shop abroad until January.

But Martinez is thought to be lining up a Premier League youngster to join on long-term loan when the window for emergency deals reopens in six days' time.

"We all know we need to strengthen the goalkeeping area," said the Spaniard, "but the deadline doesn't affect us at all.

"You can use the emergency loan system, which is available from September 8, or you can take someone who is unattached, which is always an option.

"We have to make sure we get the right person in, and it takes time to see players' personalities and also their contractual situations.

"That's why I will not be rushed and I am not under any pressure because Dorus (de Vries) is such a reliable figure.

"The loan market gives us room to manoeuvre and the three possible keepers I'm looking at will not be affected by the transfer deadline."

As rival managers prepared for a busy night of last-minute wheeling an dealing, Martinez was getting set for a quiet evening at the Liberty.

"I have always said that I don't like deadlines," he added.

"People end up making panic buys and you always pay over the odds for players, so I don't like to work in that situation.

"I'm happy to see the deadline pass with no movement as far as we are concerned."

Swansea may now aim to have a new face on board before their next game, at Crystal Palace, on September 13.

Martinez is thought to be looking for an up-and-coming keeper who will provide back-up for de Vries rather than compete directly with the Dutchman for a first-team place.

Swansea's players have been given a couple of days off after a highly encouraging start to the season.

"The boys have worked very hard and I always planned for them to have some recovery time," Martinez said.

"But they will be back in for two sessions tomorrow as we start our preparations for the Crystal Palace game."
