When the Carling Cup fourth-round draw is made tomorrow afternoon, Mark Gower is dreaming of one particular scenario — Tottenham Hotspur at the Liberty Stadium.

The former Spurs apprentice is keeping his fingers crossed for a dream tie in the 12.15pm draw.

Gower, who started his career at White Hart Lane, has already faced his former employers twice in knockout competitions while at Southend, but admits bringing Juande Ramos's side to South Wales would be the perfect tie.

Most fans will be split on their choice of draw. While some would prefer a low-profile clash at the Liberty, others would choose a money-spinning away trip to the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool.

Asked what kind of draw he wanted, Londoner Gower responded: "You want one or the other. Some people either want a Premier League side or one of the lesser teams at home.

"You don't really want a Championship side.

"Some fans would want someone like Rotherham — no disrespect to them — because they are low down in League Two and we would go into it as favourites.

"When I was at Southend we drew Spurs twice away in the FA Cup and Carling Cup.

Spurs at the Liberty would be a great occasion — I wouldn't grumble at that.

"That would be a special game for me because my family are all Spurs supporters."

Just over two and a half hours after the draw, Swansea turn their attentions to their main focus as they take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Gower, who hobbled off during Tuesday's win against Cardiff, should be involved despite groin and ankle worries.

And he reiterated that Roberto Martinez's side won't be sidetracked by any cup issues as they look to punch their weight in English football's second tier.

"We will all have our eyes on the draw but the Reading game is massive," he said. "We need to focus on the league as that is our main priority.

"Tuesday was a nice distraction but it's back to the bread and butter of the league now.

"Reading play a high-tempo game. They enjoyed a few seasons in the Premier League and they are very good at moving the ball around.

"First and foremost, although beating Cardiff in the Carling Cup was great, we have to stay in this league. By doing that we have to get some victories on the board and picking up points at places like Reading."
