Goalkeeper David Knight arrived from Premiership side Middlesbrough on a free transfer at the end of August 2007.
The 20 year-old former Youth international, who has represented England at U15, U16, U17 and U18 level, signed a one-year deal with an option to extend.
The signing ended manager Roberto Martinez's search for cover and competition for Dutchman Dorus de Vries.
Knight had been with Middlebrough since the age of 10 and played a major role in Boro's FA Youth Cup-winning side of 2004. So much so, he was rewarded with a pro contract before going out on loan to Darlington and then Oldham.
He had one year left on his contract at 'Boro.
