Albert Serran became the Swans' sixth summer signing when he made the £80,000 switch from Espanyol B in July 2008.
The central defender or full-back, who played twice in La Liga before continuing his development with Espanyol B, signed a long-term contract with the club to further add to the Swans' Spanish contingent.
Serran was a team-mate of Guillem Bauza, Federico Bessone and Jordi Gomez at the Barcelona club.
A strong player who possesses good pace, he played his first three games for the club in the Carling Cup ties against Brentford, Hull and Watford before facing Histon in the FA Cup.
He had to wait until February 2009 before making his Championship bow in the 3-0 success against Ipswich and made an immediate impact by setting up Jason Scotland to score an early opener.
Between then and the end of the season Serran made a further 13 appearances including the FA Cup replay at Fulham and the south Wales derby at Ninian Park.
