David is a young goalkeeper who was first offered professional terms by the club at the end of the 2008/09 campaign.

The Welsh speaker had completed a two-year scholarship but started the second year by training with the first-team and even went on the summer trip to Spain. Unfortunately he suffered a bad injury to his wrist and was kept out until after the New Year.

On his return to fitness, however, Cornell continued to train with the first-team and was even used during the warm-up on matchdays. He was also named as one of the seven substitutes for the two FA Cup ties against Premiership Fulham.

At international level Cornell was capped by Wales at Under-17 level with the last of his five appearances coming against Spain back in October 2007. He then went on to win his Wales Under-19 cap.

He made his full Swans debut in the Carling Cup tie against Scunthorpe during the 2009-10 season when he was No 2 to Dorus de Vries.

He has also been capped at Wales Under-21 level where he is now a regular in the successful squad.

Following the arrival of goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay last season, he found his first-team involvement limited. So, in January 2011, Cornell was loaned out to Port Talbot Town in the Welsh Premier League in a bid to get plenty of game time under his belt.

This season, he joined League Two club Hereford on loan in order to gain first-team experience. Initially joined for a month before the Swans agreed to allow him to stay at the Bulls until the end of the season.
