Joined the club at the age of 16 following his release by Leicester City.
The Nottingham-born defender completed two years as a Liberty Stadium scholar and was offered his first professional contract in readiness for the 2009/10 campaign.
A big, strong defender, Grimes was a key member of the club's youth team and also a regular fixture in Colin Pascoe's reserve side the season before.
He was loaned out to Welsh Premier League side Haverfordwest County for the majority of the Welsh Premier League campaign after being named amongst the substitutes for the Carling Cup tie against Brighton.
