The big kick-off is just one month away and with the squad being put through their paces by Roberto Martinez in Sweden, three players remain in Wales looking to get themselves back to full fitness before the August 9 opener at Charlton Athletic.

Angel Rangel

The full-back, who made 52 appearances in his debut season, went under the knife in June to solve a hernia problem which would keep him out for up to 4-6 weeks.

Twenty-five-year-old Rangel is hopeful for a return to first-team action by the start of the Coca-Cola Championship campaign.

"Angel's injury is a typical sportsman's hernia,'' said Swans physio Richie Evans. "He felt it towards the end of the season and that's why we pulled him out of a few games. The symptoms got better and we have tried to treat it conservatively over the summer. But when he stepped up his pre-season programme he started to feel it again.

"Surgery is always the last resort, but if everything goes ok he should be back for the first game of the season.''

Roberto Martinez added: "It's not a big concern as long as he gets back to 100%."

The giant defender also misses out on the week-long trip to the Jämtland County in Sweden because of a knee injury.

The Trinidad & Tobago international, who played four times for his country during the summer, also missed out on last year's Scandinavian trip with a hamstring problem.

Last seasons top-scorer is the third player to miss out on the pre-season training camp in Sweden in order to have an operation on a stomach muscle problem.

The 29-goal striker will have a small operation in Germany on Friday, July 11.

"Jason picked up a stomach strain around Christmas time,'' said Evans. "We left him out for two weeks and when he came back it wasn't causing him a problem. But he felt the symptoms again over the summer and we felt it was best to have the operation.

"We aim to get him back in time for the trip to Spain later this month.''
