Games are coming thick and fast

Posted on: Mon 23 Mar 2009

Here we are again at the Liberty Stadium, following on so quickly from Tuesday night's game against Barnsley.

With the games coming thick and fast, it's no surprise we are picking up so many injuries as we go along.

From Tuesday's game we lost the services of Mark Gower in the first-half and Leon Britton right at the end of the match.

Mark had to come off with a slight calf strain. We are hoping he will shake it off quite quickly and have been assessing him on a daily basis.

He will still have to have a fitness test before today's game to be considered for selection.

Leon is not as bad and had to come off right at the death with a bruised shin from one of his crunching tackles!

But Leon trained this week and it's an injury which shouldn't keep the big man out.

Fede Bessone had a MRI scan this week which confirmed his hamstring tear that will restrict him to the sidelines for three or four weeks.

Marcos Painter and Ferrie Bodde are both recovering well from their cruciate ligament operations.

I met up with Ferrie on Thursday at Lister Hospital in London where he was due to meet his consultant.

We are still waiting for some results, so I'll give you an update on Ferrie in our next programme against Coventry on Boxing Day.

On a positive note, it was nice to see Andrea Orlandi back in action on Wednesday following his thigh injury.

Andrea played the first 60 minutes and came through unscathed which was great news.

Now we will be stepping up his comeback over the next few weeks in readiness for his return to first team contention.

Dorus de Vries will also be wearing his protective mask for the last time today after his depressed cheek bone and fractured jaw injury.

He is due to train without the mask on Monday and play against Blackpool on Saturday.

I don't know what is scarier, Dorus with or without the mask. Only joking, Dorus!

I'd like to thank Morriston Hospital's Max Fax team and consultant Mr Hodder for their professional guidance and support surrounding Dorus' horrific injury.

All that's left for me to say is have a great Christmas and enjoy the game today.
