Squad 'relatively unscathed' after cup match

Posted on: Mon 23 Mar 2009

Well I'm glad to say that we emerged from our difficult trip to Histon relatively unscathed.

On what was always going to be a difficult night, only Owain Tudur Jones left Cambridge battered and bruised after picking up a head wound just before half-time.

I thought I'd patched him up quiet well during the break with a neat looking turban, but the blood started pouring through the bandages in the second-half and we had to take him off.

The Histon doctor put three stitches in the cut after the game and OTJ should be available for today's game.

At least it proved he really is a true red-blooded Welshman.

It was also nice to see Andrea Orlandi back in action at Histon following his thigh injury. Not only did he look strong physically, he also had an impressive game and picked up a number of man-of-the-match awards from the media.

All in all it was a good trip. I even had an apologetic handshake and a Welshcake from the Histon chairman after he wrongly accused me of getting the first game called off.

At least he didn't mix me up with Graeme Jones this time and he wished us well for our fourth round tie at Portsmouth.

A crack at a Premiership club is the least the boys deserve, especially considering a number of the lads who faced Histon hadn't played many games. The effort they put in was fantastic.

As for the rest of our injury update, Matty Collins has been ruled out for six weeks with ankle ligament damage sustained in training.

Darren Pratley picked up a bruised knee against Barnsley last week, but he still made the trip to Histon. The boys reckon it was a 'Histon knee' because he wanted to get out of the long trip.

Fede Bessone is also back in full training after his hamstring injury, while Ferrie Bodde and Marcos Painter continue their rehabilitation programme from knee ligament operations.

Paints is making the quickest progress and is ahead of schedule. So much so, he is due to visit his consultant to see if he can start running again.

He's really worked hard in the gym in recent weeks. His 'man boobs' have even disappeared - well nearly - and the boys are calling him Mr Muscle now!
