The boys can't wait for the international break

Posted on: Mon 23 Mar 2009

The boys will be looking for a big finish today with our last game at the Liberty Stadium for a month.

With so many games in such a short space of time, the boys can't wait for the international break to start after next Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

But before then it's a case of giving everything they've got left in their lockers for today's game against Crystal Palace and the trips to QPR (Tuesday) and Sheffield.

Then it will be a couple of days off - for those not involved on the international scene at least - to recharge the batteries ready for the South Wales derby at Ninian Park and the last five remaining games of the regular campaign.

Hopefully we can make it a big finish and extend our season that little bit longer.

Because there have been so many games recently, the boys were given the day off on Thursday to recover. But it was still great to see most of them come into the gym of their own accord.

It was quite interesting to see them working in the gym while the TV screens were showing footballers from other clubs enjoying the Guinness at the Cheltenham Festival!

We seem to be getting everyone back to full fitness at the right time, while long-termers Marcos Painter (knee) and Ferrie Bodde (knee) are both making good progress.

Marcos had a great review from his consultant this week. He's really happy with his progress and has been told he can push on to training with the lads in three to four weeks.

But we are still targeting next season for his comeback.

It's the same with Ferrie who also had a positive consultation this week. His muscle strength and range of movement is good and he is ready to gradually progress into a running programme.

Ferrie is adamant he will make his comeback if and when we reach the play-offs, but his consultant is adamant he won't!

Skipper Garry Monk has trained with the lads again this week following his back injury and is desperate to join the squad again.

But we will have to be careful with him and he'll have a fitness test before today's game.

Mark Gower also had a stiff back this week and was rested as a precaution against Plymouth in midweek. But Mark has returned to training again and should be fine now.

Striker Jason Scotland has also been having a bit of treatment this week on a nagging calf injury and the knock on his Achilles he picked up against the Pilgrims - before scoring the winning penalty that is.

But it's nothing serious and won't keep the hot-shot out.
