Cerian's the new top physio

Posted on: Tue 15 Sep 2009

It's been all change in the Swansea City treatment room over the summer with two new recruits joining the medical team.

Chantelle Thomas was the first to sign up as chief masseur and associate physio (more about Chantelle in the Reading programme) to take over from Oscar Brau.

There was also a change at the top with Cerian Parham coming in as head physio to replace the long-serving Richie Evans.

Cerian, 33, left his posts with the FAW and Welsh Rugby Union to take up the important position.

Abertillery-born, Cerian qualified in sports science at UWIC before going on to complete a post-graduate diploma in sports medicine.

He worked with Brian Flynn and Alan Curtis in the Welsh Under-17 and 19 squads for four years, together with the WRU 7's squad and the Newport Gwent Dragons.

Having assisted the club in their recent friendly games against FC Twente and Kilmarnock, Cerian, better known as Ceri, is delighted to join manager Paulo Sousa and the Swans on a permanent basis.

"It's a massive opportunity for me and one I'm really looking forward to,'' explained Cerian. "All the players have given me a fantastic welcome and been very receptive to the work I'm trying to do.

"It's virtually a new backroom staff here, but I know there are exciting times ahead for everyone.

"Although I've also worked with rugby, I'm a football man and I really enjoyed working with the likes of Alan Curtis, Joe Allen, Shaun MacDonald and Jazz Richards in the Welsh Under-17s and 19s. It will be nice to work with them now on a full-time basis.''

Cerian will concentrate on the players' rehabilitation and will be ably assisted by Ailsa Jones.

Ailsa managed to blag some time off over the summer to get married to Wales and Ospreys star Ryan Jones!

Congratulations to you both from everyone at the Swans (wedding pictures to follow!!).

Finally, a big thank-you goes to physio Kate Rees who stepped into the breach to help the club out for a month during the pre-season.
