Head of Youth Development Tony Pennock was pleased with the performance of his side following Saturday's 1-1 draw at Clevedon Town.

The home side took the lead shortly after the break but 21-year-old striker Chad Bond levelled the scores for a Swansea City XI just before the end.

"It was an improvement from our first game against Merthyr, which was also against a senior team, and there were a lot of pluses, a few negatives but it was an improvement," said Pennock.

"They were only small little points but we show our age sometimes, especially when we're playing against men but it's a good learning experience for all of the players. There were far more pluses than negatives but it's just down to the players to work on them before the season starts."

The Swans were missing young 'keeper David Cornell through injury while Kieran Howard, Jaz Richards and Chris Jones hadn't yet returned from international duty with Wales' Under-19 side.

Jake Harris struck the post for the home side in the first-half but the deadlock was broken seven minutes into the second period as former Newport County player Leighton Burrows fired home from close range.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser and it finally came in the 78th minute as Bond followed up a shot that had struck the post and cooly fired past ex-Bristol Rovers stopper Danny Greaves.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the last 10 minutes but on reflection a draw was a fair result.

"It was quite a physical game and the boys stood up to it which was pleasing," admitted Pennock.

"We played some really good football and if anything we could have had a couple of penalties aswell. It was a good game for both teams and one that we'll definitely take a lot of benefits out of."

The former Wales Semi-Pro boss was also pleased with the performance of the goalscorer.

"Chad was the only professional who played, was a big asset to the youngsters and he came out of the game really well. He had the full 90 minutes, his first of pre-season and it was nice for him to get on the scoresheet aswell."

Next up for the side is the trip to Welsh Premiership side Haverfordwest County on Tuesday (7.30). For more details click here.
