Swansea City twice came from behind to secure a 4-2 win over league strugglers Oxford United at St Helens.

Oxford took an early lead through defender Steve Bonner to take a slender lead into the half-time interval.

An early second-half goal from Adam Orme gave the Swans a well-deserved equaliser, but the celebrations were short lived with Jamie Connor restoring Oxford's lead.

But three goals in the space of six minutes from sub Thomas Gregg Lopes Da Silva, captain Anthony Finselbach and Gwion Edwards blew Oxford away as the Swans took their grip on the game to register a 4-2 victory.

Following last week's 8-0 demolition of Newcastle Emlyn in the Welsh Cup, the young Swans returned to winning ways in the league with a 4-2 win over Oxford.

The Swans started slowly with Oxford taking full advantage with a storming run from defence by defender Steve Bonner, who continued his attack to latch on to a defence splitting pass to coolly chip Rhys Wilson in the Swansea goal.

Despite conceding an early lead, it was the Swans who took control of the game and almost drew level when great work down the left flank saw Gwion Edwards put in a telling cross only for visiting 'keeper Nathan Silver to get a touch to take the ball off the lively Adam Orme's head.

Silver again kept Swansea out, when persistent attack from a corner fell to the feet of Jordan Smith who shot through a crowded Oxford area, only for the ball to be parried and cleared by the defence.

The second-half saw the introduction of Thomas Gregg Lopes Da Silva, who immediately made an impact forcing a save following great combination play from Swansea's front two, Edwards and Orme.

Swansea were finally rewarded for their persistent attack, getting back on level terms through Orme.

A quickly taken free-kick saw sub Charlie Kasler play a cute chip through the Oxford defence with Jordan Smith latching on to the ball and forcing a point blank save from Silver. The quick reaction of Orme to score form a difficult angle was no more than the Swans deserved.

Swansea's joy was short lived, however, when a freak goal from Jamie Connor saw the second of five goals in the space of 10 minutes.

Oxford's Cole Hinchcliffe put in a well placed cross which was tipped away by Wilson in the Swansea goal, only for the ball to ricochet straight off Connor's shoulder into the net.

Swansea were soon back on level terms following quick counter attacking play following an Oxford free-kick.

Rhys Wilson's long throw found sub Jordan Prosser on the right flank, who found Gwion Edwards racing ahead, he beat his man to cross to the unmarked Lopes Da Silva to get the Swans back on level terms.

The Swans almost took the lead from the kick-off with the lively Lopes Da Silva menacing into the Oxford half and linking well with fellow substitute Charlie Kasler who tested the 'keeper with a long range effort.

The Swansea attack was relentless, with Smith and Orme linking well to put the latter through on goal, only for his effort to hit the post.

It wasn't long before the Swans finally took the lead with skipper Anthony Finselbach smashing home from close range following a free-kick on the edge of the Oxford area. The ball was whipped in to the box and fell kindly to Finselbach following the initial defensive clearance.

The young Swans' win was sealed in style with a very well worked goal.

Kasler found Lopes Da Silva in acres of space with a pinpoint pass. The former Sporting Lisbon youngster took on Steve Bonner with a mazy run, bewildering the defender before offloading to Gwion Edwards on the edge of the box, who coolly slotted past the 'keeper from 18-yards out.

Edwards should have added to his tally in the dying stages of the game, squandering a certain goal from six-yards out, mis-timing his shot to tamely shoot into the 'keeper's hands.

Oxford nearly ended the game on a high, with goalscorer Jamie Connor capitalising on some sloppy Swansea defence to go one on one with Wilson.

The Swansea stopper was not to be beaten, coming off his line quickly only for his save to fall to the free head of Marley Joseph who put in a looping header towards goal.

Wilson's reaction was as quick as his initial rush out, to recover in time to tip the ball away from the Swansea goal.

It was a well earned victory for the young Swans, coming from behind twice in a game they looked very much in control of.
