Stephen Dobbie provided the reserves with their first away of the season against Plymouth with a second-half penalty at Home Park, writes Rob Clement.
With both sides attempting to make a series of scoring threats it was trialist 'keeper William Lumley who was alert to spring into action, palming away a George Donnelly header, following a Craig Noone opening after 17 minutes.
Seven minutes later, the goalmouth action switched to the other end and it was ex-Swan Kyle Letheren who blocked a low angled drive delivered by Besian Idrizaj.
The Swans continued to display their organisational skill on the half hour, and frontrunner Dobbie was very unfortunate not to put the visitors in the driving seat with a quality 30-yard free kick being turned away by the alert Letheren.
The attacking tempo was maintained by Marcos Painter who produced a probing left sided attacking threat, Idrizaj then made himself available to successfully shake off the attention of Hungarian Krisztian Timar, but the supporting Dobbie was unfortunate, being denied the breakthrough by the former Swansea 'keeper.
Swansea were unlucky not to break the stalemate during the final minute of the half, with Idrizaj being dispossessed on the edge of the penalty area by Timar.
There was continued attacking flair from the visitors after the interval, and twice in as many minutes Letheren prevented Idrizaj from making the crucial impact with quality saves.
In the action packed match, the Swansea goal had a let-off when Donnelly broke swiftly forward into visiting territory, only to then despatch a low driven angle effort which went inches wide of the far upright, to the relief of Swansea's trialist shot stopper.
The Pilgrims almost netted the opener on 66 minutes only for the top corner angle of the goal-frame to deny Ryan Brett's 25-yard effort.
Swansea finally responded, making the desired impact five minutes later after Ryan Leonard had brought down Idrizaj in the penalty area, and Dobbie calmly stepped forward planting the ball just beyond Letheren's reach.
"It certainly was a action packed game for both sides," said reserve team boss Colin Pascoe.
"We featured two trialists in the game, William Lumley in goal and Matthew Dempsey in defence, and they both did well, especially with Lumley making a series of good saves.
"There was a fantastic free kick strike from Stephen Dobbie in the first half; we all know what he is capable of, and I thought that he was a little unfortunate.
"But he did work extremely hard creating a number of additional scoring chances and was always a danger in going forward."
Pascoe added: "Prior to the penalty, Adam Orme had the opportunity to put us ahead; unfortunately I believe he lifted his head after Stephen Dobbie had created an opening, and instead of hitting the back of the net he hit the pigeons off the back of the stand."
