Argentina international Federico Fernandez signed from Napoli for an undisclosed fee on August 20, 2014.
Fernandez, who signed a four-year deal, helped Napoli to the Coppa Italia in 2013-14, while they finished third in Serie A. He also featured in their Champions League and Europa League campaigns – though he missed both legs against the Swans.
He made four appearances in his nation’s 2014 World Cup campaign, starting four matches as Alejandro Sabella’s side were beaten in the final by Germany.
Fernandez started his career with Estudiantes in his homeland before a 3million Euros move to Napoli in July 2011, while he also spent time on loan at Spanish club Getafe in La Liga.
In his maiden season at the Swans, Federico was hugely impressive at the heart of defence as he made 32 appearances in all competitions.
He made another 32 appearances in 2015-16, which included his first goal for the club in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
