Swansea City bolstered their goalkeeping options by signing Australia international Mark Birighitti on a free transfer in July 2016.
The 25-year-old, named in the A-League’s 2015-16 team of the season after some impressive displays for Newcastle Jets, signed a two-year contract.
After playing youth football at the Australian Institute of Sport, Perth product Birighitti made his first professional appearance for Adelaide United in 2008.
Following a four-year spell at Adelaide, Birighitti moved to Newcastle Jets, for whom he has made 77 league appearances.
He spent six months on loan at Italian Serie B side Varese – where he worked with current Swans coach Gabriele Ambrosetti - in January 2015 before returning to his parent club.
The 2015-16 season proved hugely successful for Birighitti, who caught the eye with a number of quality performances despite his side finishing eighth in the ten-team A-League.
On the international front, Birighitti has one senior cap for Australia – against China in 2013 – while he was an unused substitute in his nation’s 2-1 friendly defeat to England in May.
He has also represented his country at under-17, under-20 and under-23 level.
